on new or old personal computers.
Linux can be expanded with many open source applications and desktop enviroments. Here some examples:

- Professional typesetting programs: LaTeX;

- Printing programs and drivers: OpenPrinting;
- Graphics and scanning programs: Gimp, Inkscape, sane;
- Programming languages: GCC;
- Networking: Firefox, Opera, Thunderbird. Linux supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth;
- Authentication: Linux supports smart-card and NFC-contactless-card readers for public administration authentication.
